Two DNA Executives Announced




  DENVER, Dec. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Two new executives at the Denver Newspaper Agency were announced Monday by CEO Harry Whipple.

Bernie Szachara, Vice President of Operations at the Rochester, NY, Democrat and Chronicle, was named Senior Vice President of Operations and Information Technology. Szachara replaces Frank Dixon, Senior Vice President of Operations, who recently retired, and Eric Wolferman, Vice President of Information Technology, who left to pursue other interests. Szachara will report to Whipple.

Robert Kinney, Director of PrePublishing at DNA, was promoted to Vice President of Information Technology and PrePublishing. He will report to Szachara.

"I am pleased to announce the appointment of two executives of this caliber and experience to guide our production and technology in the age of new media when knowledge of technology and quality issues is of paramount importance," Whipple said.

Szachara has served as both Vice President of Operations and Vice President of Production at the Rochester newspaper, where he has been an executive since 2002. As Vice President of Operations, he was responsible for production, information technology and transportation/distribution at the Rochester newspaper.

Before moving to Rochester, Schazara was Director of Imaging Integration from 1997 through 2002 for the corporate staff of the Gannett Company. He has a strong background in improving print quality and productivity, integrating new technology, general strategic planning, commercial printing and has launched installation of MAN Roland presses for Gannett. He was Editor and Publisher Production "All Star" in 2007 and the Rochester paper was the Number 1 ranked newspaper in Gannett for print quality awards.

Kinney is a 20-year veteran with experience in newspaper design, information technology management and prepress management. At the Rocky Mountain News, before the JOA was formed, he was a manager in various IT positions, including business systems, client services and networking. From 1999 until 2001, he was PrePublishing Director at the News. When DNA was launched in 2001, he was named Assistant PrePublishing Director, where he served until 2004, when he was named PrePublishing Director.

Before coming to the News in 1995, Kinney was a newsroom designer at the Memphis Commercial Appeal from 1987-1989; design editor for the Fort Wayne News-Sentinel from 1989-1991, and prepress manager for Fort Wayne Newspapers, a JOA, from 1991-1995.
